  4. Q1: How do I install Antiword?
  5. A1: Copy the application-directory and all the files within it to a
  6.     suitable directory.

  8. Q2: How do I use Antiword?
  9. A2: Double click on a Wordfile, filetype MSWord (&ae6). Or drag and drop
  10.     a file onto the Antiword icon on the iconbar.
  11.  
  12. Q3: How does Antiword deal with Word macro viruses?
  13. A3: Antiword does not run any Word macros because it can not do so.
  14.     Therefore your Archimedes will not be harmed by such a virus.

  16. Q4: What does the 'Paragraph breaks' option do?
  17. A4: This option controls the maximum number of characters per line in
  18.     paragraphs. If your screen is 640 pixels wide (like modes 20 and 27)
  19.     than 76 is probably best. If your screen is 800 or more pixels wide
  20.     (like mode 31) than numbers near 94 work best. You can switch this
  21.     option off in case the (text only) output of Antiword is intended to
  22.     be the input of a wordprocessor or DTP program.

  24. Q5: What does the 'Auto filetype' option do?
  25. A5: When auto filetype is allowed, Antiword will change the filetype of
  26.     Wordfiles to MSWord (&ae6)

  28. Q6: When Antiword uses outline fonts it becomes horribly slow. What can I
  29.     do about that?
  30. A6: When Antiword uses outline fonts it needs a large font cache. A small
  31.     font cache wil make Antiword (very) slow. The larger the font cache the
  32.     better, but usualy 160K or 256K will do.

  34. Q7: What is the purpose of the file 'FontNames' in the Choices directory?
  35. A7: This file provides a translation tabel from the fontnames as they are
  36.     found in a Word file to the fontnames as they are known to the RISC OS
  37.     font-manager.
  38.     The file 'FontNames' is user-editable to make it suit your collection
  39.     of fonts. Some examples are provided in the Resources directory.

  41. Q8: What is 'Hidden text'?
  42. A8: Hidden text is Microsoft speak for text that will or will not be shown
  43.     on the screen, subject to the users preferences, but such text is never
  44.     printed.

  46. Q9: After upgrading to a new version of Antiword, I found that Antiword does
  47.     not put a new -updated- version of FontNames in !Choices. Why not?
  48. A9: The user can change the file Fontnames to reflect the fonts available
  49.     on that specific computer. Antiword can not be permitted to overwrite
  50.     changes made by a user. So after upgrading you should remove or rename
  51.     the old FontNames file.

  53. Q10: Why does Antiword freeze my computer for a while between converting the
  54.      Word document and showing the Word document?
  55. A10: This can happen when the Word document contains a very large picture and
  56.      the picture must be scaled to a much smaller size before showing. The
  57.      delay is by RISC OS doing the scaling, so there is not much Antiword can
  58.      do about it.
